Green sziget

One of the Love Revolution’s main message is about environmental consciousness and sustainable development. Last year, we put a lot of effort into fulfilling our goals and becoming greener and plan on continuing with this tradition this year. The Love Revolution is our way of celebrating, that together, we can achieve sustainable development and environmental awareness in our daily lives.

Reusable cups

Continuing last year, you will receive your drinks in reusable cups. Buy your first cup (450 HUF), then take your used one back and to receive a new one. If you don’t wanna lug your cup around all night then exchange it for a token at any bar and use it later on to redeem a new one.
Cups cannot be exchanged for money.

Green Sziget Center

This year we will feature a new location, called the ‘Green Sziget Center.’ Szitizens can attend diverse workshops and performances here. There will also be three Recycling points at Sziget. We will once again welcome Climate KIC Alumni to hold climate innovation workshops and continue the TrashFashion sessions along with the Wifi for Trash activity. On Sziget’s last day tents, sleeping bags, and matts, will be collected by charity organizations and volunteers. This will rid the festival area of around 150 cubic meters of waste. Find the detailed program here!

SzigEthical Wear

Be sure to check out our merch, including Printed Organic Earthpositiv® T-Shirts with Plastic Free Ink, canvas bags, and BPA-free bottles. You’ll be able to find these fabulous new products at any of our on-site Sziget shops, the new Green Sziget Center and at Recycling Points.

Bike Friendly Festival

Bike to Sziget and enjoy free bike storage, a quick repair facility, and rental services!

Green Shower Initiative

Save water by showering quickly! An average 8-minute shower uses over 110 liters of water! Try to cut back on your shower time and help save the planet one drop at a time.

FreshWater Points

Cut back on plastic bottles and refill water at the numerous drinking water taps across the festival. Look for the droplet of water symbols on the map to locate these points.

Energy Efficiency

Commercial units equipped with standalone meters will be provided with energy efficiency advice. With the help of our volunteers, we will monitor which of the proposed measures were implemented by our partners.

Cleaner Riverbanks Program

We will be monitoring the Danube riverbank more closely to make sure that no waste gets in the water.

Collective Composting Lab

The humus material made here will be used during the recultivation of Óbuda Island. In addition to the mobile compost, there will also be a 'visual lab' where the composting process will be presented in a scientific way.

Sustainability Report

This year we will prepare a public sustainability report. We’d like to use this to keep track and monitor our progress as well as, allow others to glance at our data and learn more about how effective our policies and measures have been.

Waste Recycling

Just as last year, this year, we will be collecting plastic, aluminum, and glass waste at 140 locations. About 30-40% of the waste produced during the event can be reused. To further improve these results, there will be about 50 Volunteers going around the festival and collecting selective waste. Our goal is to achieve a 50% recycling rate at least.

EcoCamping powered by E.ON

In the EcoCamping area (capacity 200 people), each resident receives a canvas bag along with a flask, cigarette stub collector, and a trash bag. This year we will use ECO toilets with vacuum flushing technology to save 85% more water. There will also be community breakfast in the campgrounds, upcycling furniture, and environmentally friendly cleaning products. In addition, the Slow Food Bar will offer campers breakfast and lunch made of fresh produce and quality ingredients. All items used for the serving and eating of meals are biodegradable (plates, cups, utensils, napkins, take away boxes, etc.). With the help of E.ON, the reception and sanitary facilities will be powered by solar energy.

Don’t Suck!

Straws are extremely harmful to the environment, therefore bartenders will only provide reusable straws upon request.

Pocket Ashtrays

This year we will be handing out pocket ashtrays throughout the island.

Green Sziget Vendor Program

A new dining block will be created where environmentally conscious vendors will gather and serve a lot of vegetables, fruits, fish, and chicken products. Meal preparations will produce lower CO2 emissions. Kitchen waste generated here will be processed in the mobile composting plant located on Sziget.

Recycling Programs

There will be three Recycling centers at Sziget. On Sziget’s last day tents, sleeping bags, and matts, will be collected by charity organizations and volunteers. This will rid the area of around 150 cubic meters of waste. We will also distribute 10,000 cigarette stub collectors again, as we did last year, and we will also be collecting plastic, aluminum, and glass waste at 140 locations. We will be able to reuse about 30-40% of the waste produced during the event. This year there will be a study about the Óbudai Sziget’s environmental condition, and the Festival’s effect on it. Based on our analysis, we will make suggestions to improve and expand green areas.
